Maine Has a rich tradition of Folk Music, and Portland is the central hub of this still vibrant and culturally rich music scene. Maine Traditional Music School’s mission is to bring the best teachers together with community, to nurture and pass this wonderful music to the future generations.

About Us

We are an inclusive school, with a desire to integrate the diverse community and culture in Portland. Ensemble style classes foster learning in a fun and social environment. Songs will be taught the traditional way, learning by ear from a teacher. We will offer a variety of Traditional folk music from different cultures, taught to different experience levels.

Workshop intensives, and live performance from some of the finest players will be on the calendar year round. All instruments are welcome, however the student will want to have a decent foundation in their chosen instrument to receive the most from the class. We look forward to being the Traditional Folk Music Hub in Portland!
