Great Irish Fiddle Tunes of the 20th Century
January 5 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Has the pandemic turned your brain into mashed potatoes? Join Alden Robinson in this 4 week history and music lesson course. Miracle cure!

About this Event
Many of the great tunes in the Irish tradition have no known composer. They are traditional melodies that have evolved over time. But especially over the last 120 years or so, many great new tunes have entered the tradition from the hands of noted composers.
Over four weeks, we will learn a few tunes from some of the last century’s great tunesmiths. Musicians like Ed Reavy, Paddy O’Brien, Larry Redican, Paddy Fahy, Tommy Peoples, and Liz Carroll to name a few! We will practice learning by ear, with recordings and music to help us if needed. We’ll also learn about resources for tune-sleuthing, and of course some bowing and ornamentation ideas.
These will be intermediate-to-advanced tunes, taught for intermediate players. Any instrument welcome, but I will be playing the fiddle! All over Zoom, unfortunately, but maybe we can get together when all this settles down and play what we’ve learned.
The class tuition is $95 for 4 weeks. Sliding scale is available upon request (please email me).
A percentage of profit will be donated to BLACK POWER Portland!
*Please note that class has a minimum attendace of 6. If we do not meet the minimum class requirement it will be canceled and you will immediately receive a full refund.
